Erleen Rosso: Experience working on shakedown street window display

I had the wonderful opportunity to collaborate with a classmate on a window display for Shakedown Street, our local thrift and consignment store located on Main Street in Oneonta. This project was part of my Fashion Promotion course, taught by the incredible Professor Sarah Portway. The display features a fall theme, and I hope you all enjoy it!

What I did

I had the honor of creating a window display for Shakedown Street, a popular thrift store located on Main Street in Oneonta. For this display, I selected outfits that I felt would be the best representation of the fall season. The variety and options available at the store were extensive, and I worked hard to curate looks that captured the essence of fall, focusing on cozy, layered pieces that reflect the changing weather and the season's color palette. Although putting together the display was not easy, it was far from impossible. I carefully considered how each outfit would work together visually to attract attention and highlight the store's unique offerings. Ultimately, the experience helped me achieve a goal of mine; I was able to create a display that felt cohesive and seasonal.

What I learned

I learned that constructing a window display is far from easy, but it was an incredibly valuable experience. The process challenged my creative mind in ways I hadn’t anticipated, pushing me to think outside the box and find solutions to make the display both visually appealing and functional. From selecting the right outfits to arranging them in a way that told a story, every detail required careful consideration. Drafting the final display was a rewarding part of the process, as I was able to see my vision come together. The challenge of creating a cohesive and eye-catching window display helped me develop new skills in visual merchandising and reinforced my passion for creative problem-solving in the fashion industry
