jenna gargiulo: y2k

I was given the opportunity to create a visual merchandising display located in SUNY Oneonta's human ecology building. I was inspired by the Y2K fashion and music scene, emphasizing a unique blend of nostalgia and innovation.

Final Project Outcome

This final window display was showcased in SUNY Oneonta's Human Ecology Building on the first floor.

What I did

I focused on creating a balanced and fun display that would connect to college students. My involvement included selecting and arranging clothes that I thrifted, ensembling outfits on mannequins that would reflect the aesthetic of 2000s fashion, and designing the display to harmonize with my selected outfits. I gathered information on Pinterest to help create my vision as captivating as possible.. In order to appeal to my audience, I chose a bright glittery pink background, created y2k inspired cds and stars out of paper and a magazine wall with covers from the 2000s.

What I learned

From this project I have learned how to define clear project goals and objectives, create a realistic project plan, and create a cohesive, engaging impression. I worked on this display with only a short period of time avalible and a limited budget to integrate my vision. Being a fashion merchandise major, this experience will greatly help me in the future. I have learned important aspects that are integrated in the fashion industry such as merchandise planning, price planning, and promotion and marketing to build relationships with customers to maximize profit.
