During seven weeks at House of Consignment I learned the hardworking and dedication it takes to own and run a small business, and the different marketing strategies that fit different businesses. The owner Kirsty Roefs taught me how to execute these different strategies and gave me retail experience.
Final Project Outcome
This social media post was made by me with use of instructions and criteria given to me by Kirsty Roefs to advertise their new children's clothing department. This is just one example of the different advertisements and learning experiences I gained throughout this internship
What I did
While interning at House of Consignment I learned so much about retail and small businesses. The activities I was most involved in included visual merchandising, quality control, social media marketing, and research. I made many social media posts for the business's events, new merchandise, and styled layouts of clothing. I often helped Kirsty Roefs research consigned merchandise and put it on the sales floor, while also using those items to create displays to help merchandise catch customers' eyes.
What I learned
This internship has taught me so much about the interworking of a small business and the marketing strategies that are most effective for small businesses versus larger corporations. I found that this learning experience has taught me information that cannot be learned in classrooms and I am so grateful for the opportunity SUNY Oneonta and the team at House of Consignment has given to me. The information and experience I have gained during these several weeks tie in to my course work at Oneonta with the different merchandising and marketing strategies but with this internship I have been able learn with hands on experience. I believe this experience made me much more confident to go into the fashion industry as I have no only learned more about business but I have also learned the discipline and management that is needed to succeed.
