For my experimental learning experience I managed and made content for the Instagram page for the Office of Sustainability.
Final Project Outcome
This public Instagram page was used throughout the semester to connect with students, staff and the greater Oneonta community.
What I did
This project involved making original fliers for events, planning posts/layout, taking photos at events, and spreading awareness for sustainability events and initiatives on campus. This also required more technical skills such as video and photo editing. The position allowed me to attend many sustainability events and gain experience from hands-on work, such as tabling, tree-tagging, giving a sustainability tour, and working at the on campus thrift store.
What I learned
I have learned so much about communication and outreach from this position. I have had to learn what content is the most engaging, while still sticking to the message we want to share. This has also been an incredible opportunity to connect with other interns and offices to facilitate productive dialogue about sustainability and our common goals. This experience will help me in the future because it showed me how important community engagement is in order to raise awareness for sustainability.
