Miranda Bartels: Community Table Alpha Phi Omega

Being able to table outside of SUNY Oneonta’s campus was really fun and a great experience. We were able to engage the community and talk about the community service Alpha Phi Omega does for Oneonta!

Final Project Outcome

We handed flyers to students who came by the table and also educated the community on the community service we do with the trifold

What I did

Alpha Phi Omega is an organization I hold very close to my heart. We are based on Leadership, Friendship and Service and most of our members do way over the required hours. I have been in Alpha Phi Omega since I was a freshman in spring 2023 and seeing the different ways we are able to engage with others is important. Engaging the community at the farmers market is extremely beneficial because people don’t know what you don’t tell them! Our members work super hard to get their hours done and we do it for good reason. I was able to make the flyer we handed out with the information we had on the board so people can take something with them.

What I learned

I learned that in order to be effective you need to be willing to speak with multiple different kinds of people. The community table is there for students and members of the community to ask questions, although on this day it was mainly students. If anyone looked at the board, I would try to give them the little elevator speech, but it is extremely hard because I felt like I was bothering them. I need to be more willing to put myself out there especially because it’s from a good reason!
