Sarah Connolly: Shakedown Street Internship

As part of my internship at Shakedown Street, I learned what it takes to run a small consignment shop. I learned about different techniques stores can use to attract customers and how to interact with them.

Final Project Outcome

These are photos and videos of outfits I styled for Shakedown Street in-store and on social media.

What I did

To create posts for social media I would come up with a theme and walk around the store pulling things that aligned with that theme. Then I would style them on myself or a coworker and create videos showcasing each look. Once the video was made I would go through each of the items again and include sizes and prices in the description to encourage customers to come in and buy what they saw online. I also helped to create displays in the store that followed a theme and would appeal to what our customers liked.

What I learned

This project helped me to learn a lot about what it is like to run a clothing store. There are so many different things you need to think about when trying to gain customers, and I hadn't realized it before. I learned about how important consistency is and communicating with your customers, especially on social media. This experience gave me a deeper understanding of both customers and businesses and will help me understand what customers are thinking at my future jobs.
