Myself and my peer and good friend, Casey, were tasked to come up with and present an idea for a visual merchandising display/promotional display in one of the window displays inside the Human Ecology Building on the second floor. We had such a blast creating it, and understand that we had some people stopping to check it out, too!
Final Project Outcome
This window display was up in one of the window display spaces inside of the Human Ecology Building for a month or so! We got lots of positive feedback on it, and had a great time setting it all up!
What I did
My friend and peer, Casey and I, created this window display from scratch! We used clothes out of our closets, paper from my crafting supplies at home, spare fabric from the vault, and muslin that I had to lend to create the display. Overall, it took 5 hours, and was incredibly fun to set up (and eventually break down). It was MTV themed!
What I learned
I learned a lot about visual merchandising and some other lessons from this project, honestly, and I will definitely take all of that with me into my career and onwards into my professional development. I learned that visual merchandising takes a lot more time than you'd think – so you should always account for more. I learned that a surprising amount of people care about a male mannequin wearing a typically "women's" bikini top (which was interesting to note, even though that's their judgement and they are entitled to it). And lastly, I learned how much money is also put into creating these displays – this part of fashion promotion is really an art, and I'm excited to learn more about it/experiment more with it in the future.
