I interned at Shakedown Street on Main Street. It was my first time interning in the fashion industry, and I have learned so many new things about merchandising through this experience. I gave a lot of thought about how to get people's attention both in the store and on social media, what kinds of content people like to watch, ways for people to enjoy shopping and browsing, etc, and I did my best in my own way.
Final Project Outcome
Here are some of the Instagram posts that I made.
What I did
What I did was mostly film videos and take pictures using the products from the store, introduce them, edit them, and post them on Instagram. In these 14 days, I made 13 different kinds of posts using and introducing different things. I tried my best to let people know the attraction of the store and engage them to come and buy the products.
What I learned
I have only been to Shakedown Street as a customer, and I have never seen the store's perspective, but through this internship, I learned that there are a lot of kinds of strategies and ways that they have to get customers' attention. For example, periodically rearranging the store layout, placing recommended products in the location where people can easily see, or setting up engaging features to entertain children visiting with their parents. It was a great opportunity for me to learn this store-side perspective towards customers.
What’s next for me
What's next for me is to explore more and different career paths within the fashion industry. This was my first internship in the fashion industry, and it gave me an opportunity to learn a basic understanding of visual merchandising and marketing on social media. In the future, I would like to expand and improve my skills by getting various experiences in marketing, branding, and promoting in a professional way, using what I learned in this internship.
