About me

My name is Sophia Vitola, and I am a dual major in Environmental Sustainability and Geography. I have always had a strong interest in conservation, which comes from my lifelong love of animals and the environment. Whether I am working at a nature preserve, as a farmhand, or volunteering with animal rescues, I enjoy finding ways to help animals and make a positive impact on the environment. Outside of school and work, I love spending time in nature, especially hiking with my friends and family, and I have two cats, Lucy and Cannoli, who are a big part of my life. I also love traveling and hope to spend the upcoming summer exploring new places, meeting new people, and experiencing new things. I am excited to continue learning, growing, and gaining new experiences through the Empire State Service Corps!

Why I serve

I was inspired to apply to the Empire State Service Corps due to my current experience working with a nonprofit animal rescue. Through volunteering my time with the rescue, I have been able to see firsthand how much of a difference community involvement and service can make. With that said, I think the program is a wonderful opportunity to become more involved in my community while continuing to gain meaningful experience. I have always loved the idea of bringing people together through service and helping build stronger, more connected, and resilient communities. The Empire State Service Corps gives me the opportunity to do just that.

Fun Fact

I love to weight lift and gain muscle, and I have been lifting for nearly 3 years now!
